Buster is a tall, barrel chested bear of a man who spent his childhood in the waters of Southern California and his adult life traveling the globe surfing the best beaches. Buster traveled from top to bottom of the world: Alaska to Australia, France to South Africa., East Coast-West Coast and the Islands of the Pacific, too.
Due to his gregarious nature and exceptional personality, Buster was granted friendships in as many ports. Buster became a legend in his own time not only as a famous waterman but for his ability to make people feel good. Buster's sense of humor and magic smile were the catalyst for many life experiences of which, most of us can only dream. Buster's penchant for good times has always been transferred to all that have met him and his "on vacation" lifestyle is one that we all aspire to.
During his surfing excursions in 1971, Buster landed in South Africa and was captured by the beauty of the wind swept seascape. As much as Buster never really enjoyed work (Buster was "always on vacation"), he had to support his surfing habits in some way. His favorite jobs were working in ocean front restaurants because his four favorite loves could be found there: Water, Women, Beer and Fish.It seemed that restaurants brought out the best in Buster and as always,
Buster took a job in a local fish house restaurant (not far from the surf). He was quickly hired due to his many years of experience in restaurants and an inherent talent for hospitality. Buster had the ability to cover any position " at the drop of a hat", like bussing tables, bartending, cooking and even managing. But what Buster liked best was to act the role of owner.
One day in the spring of the same year Buster was invited by his friend Norman to trek north to a place famous for mining diamonds. Norman is an aboriginal surfer friend from the beaches "Down Under". The two friends spent the next two days searching the rich South African soil for the gems. Only hours before they were to depart Buster struck pay-dirt! Surfer's luck I guess, never the less Buster was rich!!
His greatest dream realized, Buster took his share of the diamonds back home to Southern California and opened a restaurant on a beach and christened it: Buster's Beach House & Longboard Bar.
